Highlights of a Decade

Medicos swapped their scalpels for strings and bows, their journals for musical scores, and their ward rounds for rehearsals on Saturday - the commencement of the 10th anniversary of the NSW Doctors' Orchestra season!  The musicians - GPs, pathologists, surgeons, psychiatrists, and med students - have saved the date for a year and renewed their acquaintance with their cello, trumpet, oboe, or xylophone, if only for a couple of hard-to-find spare weekends, raising money for charity.

I'm a clarinetist and anaesthetist - I've only been around this orchestra for three years, but it's a huge year for us and the build up is tantalising. We're welcoming back beloved Lindfield local Simon Tedeschi from his stellar international tours to reprise Greig's piano concerto with us.  It's amazing, the way he whizzes into rehearsals and seems to turn a basic upright piano into a stunningly expressive concert grand.

Such is our success we're obliged to move to a new venue this year, the brand-spanking new The Concourse in Chatswood, to accomodate our growing audience.  We donate over $5,000 to a worthy health charity each year, and this year's beneficiary, the Schizophrenia Fellowship, will be thrilled that we're 50% ahead of past ticket sales!

We hope to see many local residents at the performance in two weeks on Sun 26 May.
