Mending

Carmel-Wellburn-The-Gown-2023-photograph_THUMB.jpg

Exhibition dates: 8 to 19 November 2023

A photographic exhibition presented by The Blue Hour Photographic Collective.

This group of artists explore themes of mending the body, mending the mindset and mending the damaged environment.

Ours is a new world and mending has been lost like a hole in a sock. Mending, repairing, healing and restoring are all possible to ensure a sustainable society and environment.

Our world at times feels like it’s fraying at the edges. Global issues such as war and climate change seem almost beyond our capacity to respond. Yet there are small ways, often at the local level or even the personal level, where people can, and do, try to make a difference. That may be by direct action or by increasing our knowledge and deepening our understanding of the issues to be able to make appropriate responses.

In this exhibition seven photographic artists have taken quite different perspectives on the need for mending and repair in our society and environment. From healing the past socially, overuse of resources to repairing cultural assets to supporting the notions of a sustainable and biologically diverse environment.

The Blue Hour Photographic Collective is an interrelated group of like-minded artists, each bringing a unique voice in their love of photography as artform.

A collective of established and emerging artists, mentored by renowned photographer Janet Tavener. Uniting as a photographic collective to create and produce interconnected exhibitions in established galleries, most recently Floriana at Gallery Lane Cove and Studios.

All members are well established and exhibiting artists, with many prize winners.

Each artist brings their unique expertise to the exhibition and group, with an array of contemporary styles: minimalism, surrealism, wearable art and grand historic compositions - to mention some of the genres that unite to explore the complexity of the photographic subject matter of mending
