Willoughby Visual Arts invites you to an artist talk as part of our local artist exhibition 'Home Grown: Surface Tension'

Join Kathie Najar for a lunch-time artist talk as she delves into some of the themes and processes behind her works as part of Home Grown: Surface Tension.

Kathie Najar is a multidisciplinary artist working across installation, drawing, textiles, sculpture and digital media, living and working on Cammeraygal Country. Her practice explores the interconnectedness of culture, ecology and place, drawing on architecture, natural systems and material histories.

About the exhibition

Home Grown: Surface Tension brings together works exploring notions of visibility, particularly the ways artists trace intangible and imperceptible histories. Like the invisible membrane of surface tension, these works suspend rather than fully reveal, inviting deeper inquiry beyond first glance.

The exhibition is part of an annual series that showcases local artists and those with a significant connection to the City of Willoughby. Home Grown is an annual exhibition that showcases the work of artists with connections to City of Willoughby.

This year's artists include Thomas C. Chung, Terhi Hakola, Pamela Leung, Anne Levitch, Claire Engkaninan Low, Kathie Najar, Gaia Starace, Alma Studholme and Susanna Chen Chow, Fangmin Wu and Sairi Yoshizawa.

Home Grown: Surface Tension is part of the Emerge Festival 2026, presented by Willoughby City Council.
