Join renowned Peking Opera artist Christine Yan Wu for a captivating excerpt from The Drunken Beauty (Gui Fei Zui Jiu), one of the most celebrated masterpieces of traditional Chinese theatre.

In this iconic opening scene, Imperial Consort Yang Guifei arrives at the Hundred Flowers Pavilion, filled with anticipation as she awaits the Emperor. Through graceful singing, expressive movement and refined storytelling, Christine brings to life the beauty, sophistication and artistry of this treasured Chinese cultural tradition.

About the artist

Christine Yan Wu is a Sydney-based professional Peking Opera performer and national grade actress. She began her training at the age of nine, graduated from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts and performed with the Beijing Opera Theatre Company before migrating to Australia in 2003.

Throughout her distinguished career, Christine has received numerous accolades including the prestigious first prize in the Beijing Opera Competition (1998) and first prize in The Future Star of National Beijing Opera (1995).

Christine has performed extensively across Europe, Asia and Oceania, sharing the rich heritage of Peking Opera with audiences worldwide. In 2022, she founded the Australia Beijing Opera Academy (Sydney Jing Yun Tang), where she is dedicated to preserving and promoting this centuries-old art form through performance, education and cultural exchange.
