Join us for 'Hatched' at The Concourse Green Space for free performances and children's workshops on Sunday 19 October.

'Hatched’ is a quirky and fun offering from Curious Legends, featuring 2 adorable Ibis Chicks – Nellie and Sid – making their way in the world. Hatching from a wheelie bin, these baby bin chickens will light up The Concourse with their antics and clowning.

Modelled after the humble bin chicken – much maligned by Australian culture – the Ibis is reimagined in this playful performance by Curious Legends. Perhaps we have more in common with bin chickens than we realise...

Free Children's Workshops

Join free Butterfly Making workshops and flutter into a fun, interactive performance for all ages. During the workshop, children will create a butterfly from scratch and rehearse with the team for a 20-minute 'Hatched' performance immediately following the workshops.

There are four workshop sessions available:

12pm to 12:30pm
12.30pm to 1pm
2pm to 2:30pm
2:30pm to 3pm

Please note that children aged under 8 must be assisted in their butterfly creation by a responsible adult. Children aged over 8 may participate in the workshop independently, however a responsible adult must remain onsite for the duration of the workshop. One butterfly per child (e.g. if you have two children, you will need to register both of them).

Bookings are essential with limited spots available. Register your child for a workshop.

Curious Legends

We’re Curious Legends, a theatre company that believes in the inherent wonder of the world around us. We aim to inspire kids and their adults to experience this through the magic of theatre. Our shows, workshops, and roving performances embrace laughter, magic, and the mysterious world of our imaginations.

Formed from humble beginnings in 2005, we have since grown our activities to encompass large-scale site-specific theatre, community cultural development, workshops, roving performances, and touring throughout Australia and overseas. While best known for our giant, illuminated puppets, our work encompasses a wide range of art forms. This includes multimedia, traditional theatre, and large-scale site-specific work.

We’re based in Newcastle, Australia, though our activities are national and international in scope.
