Unfolding Ground
Next date: Wednesday, 16 December 2026 | 11:00 AM

Exhibition dates: 16 to 20 December 2026
A group exhibition of Korean-Australian artists exploring identity, memory, migration and belonging.
Unfolding Ground brings together a collective of Korean-Australian artists based in Sydney (AKAVA), whose practices examine the evolving relationship between identity, memory, migration and place. Through painting, installation and mixed media, the artists navigate personal and collective histories shaped by movement between Korea and Australia.
The exhibition approaches 'ground' as both a physical and emotional terrain – unstable, layered and continually transforming through lived experience. Across the works, memories surface and recede, cultural inheritances are reinterpreted and ideas of belonging are negotiated through acts of making.
Rather than presenting identity as fixed or singular, Unfolding Ground reveals it as a process of becoming: unfolding through displacement, connection, and time. The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the subtle spaces between here and elsewhere, past and present, self and community.
Together, the artists create a shared ground where diverse narratives intersect, offering a contemplative exploration of cultural continuity, transformation and the complexities of diasporic experience.
