The Start Smart workshop introduces participants to the essential foundations of starting a small business.


This workshop provides a practical overview of the key areas individuals need to consider before launching a business, including planning, financial considerations, market understanding and regulatory requirements.

Participants are encouraged to think critically about their business idea, assess its viability and gain a realistic understanding of what is involved in becoming a business owner.

Workshop topics

During the workshop participants will explore:

• Clarifying a business idea and identifying opportunities
• Understanding customers and the marketplace
• Assessing the viability of a business concept
• Key steps to starting a business (ABN, business name, licences and registrations)
• Financial considerations including start-up costs, pricing and record-keeping
• The importance of planning before launching a business
• Building a network of professional support (accountants, advisors and mentors)
• Creating a simple plan for moving forward

The workshop is designed to be engaging, supportive and practical, providing participants with knowledge they can immediately apply as they begin their entrepreneurial journey.
