Willoughby Band

Formed in 1959, the Willoughby Band is a vibrant community organisation with a proud tradition of brass banding and a longstanding commitment to musical excellence. The band has earned a respected place in the Australian music landscape, having enjoyed success at both state and national championships over many decades.

Today, the organisation comprises three ensembles: Willoughby City Band (Premier Grade), Willoughby Brass 2 (A Grade), and the recently established Willoughby Youth Brass for players aged nine and above. Together, these ensembles provide pathways for musicians of all ages, offering opportunities to rehearse, perform, and compete at a range of levels. Many members have gone on to perform with professional ensembles in Australia and overseas.

In addition to competitions and its established concert series, the band performs regularly at civic functions and community events, including ANZAC services, street parades, Christmas carols and Australia Day ceremonies. The organisation also supports corporate events and works closely with Willoughby City Council to enrich the cultural life of the area.

The band greatly values its connection with the local community and acknowledges the ongoing support of Willoughby City Council and the people and visitors of Willoughby.
